MyTMRS Guide

MyTMRS allows members and payees to view their account information online using an Internet browser.

Gaining Access to MyTMRS

To access the MyTMRS website, you must first register to set up your user name, password, and e-mail address. You will also need to provide several challenge questions and answers.

Signing in

After you register, you will be able access MyTMRS by entering your username and password on the MyTMRS sign in page. The sign in process will automatically determine the membership and/or payee account(s) to which you have access, and will display a list. You can choose from this list which information you wish to display.

Some items appearing on the list may not be selectable. This is because MyTMRS limits internet access to account information under the following circumstances:

  1. Membership accounts cannot be accessed after one year from the effective date of retirement.
  2. Membership accounts cannot be accessed after one year from the date of a refund check.
  3. Payee accounts cannot be accessed after one year from the data of the final payment.

If you need information about an account that cannot be accessed with MyTMRS, contact TMRS at 800-924-8677 for further assistance.

Changing your Current Password

Once logged on, you can change your password to any combination of 8-20 numbers, lower-case letters, or upper-case letters. The only special characters that are allowed are the period ( . ), underline ( _ ), dash ( - ), and ampersand ( & ). Your password must contain at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, and 1 number. Dinner2nite, coffee4U, 4me2know are examples of properly constructed passwords. Your password should be known only to you.

Navigating the Site

The MyTMRS site is navigated primarily by using the pulldown menu at the top of the page. Only those items appropriate to your logon will be available in the navigation bar.

Requesting an Estimate

After signing in, choose Retirement Estimate from the pulldown menu. Click on the “Request new estimate” link and enter a future retirement date. An estimate will then be displayed showing the various annuity and PLSD options. You can run as many estimates as you wish, for any month after your retirement eligibility date. You will also be able to redisplay the last 10 estimates you have run for yourself during the past 60 days.

Logging off

You should log off MyTMRS by clicking the Log Off link in the pulldown menu when you are through accessing your information. Logging off ensures your privacy.

After you correctly answer the question, your user name is sent to the e-mail address you provided at registration.

Viewing Member Information for the Current and Prior Years

TMRS members can view their balances for the current calendar year, as well as their balances for the four (4) prior calendar years. The current year is displayed upon your successful logon. To view the balances for prior years, click on the Prior Year Balances link in the navigation menu.

The items appearing on the current year and prior years are described below.

  • My City The city name of your employing city will display at the top of the page.
  • My Personal Information Your name, mailing address, phone number, and date of birth on record at TMRS for your account
  • My Current (or Prior Year) Balance Information Your beginning balance is the balance on your account at the start of the current year. Service credit in months and dollar value amounts are shown.
  • Interest this Year (seen only on My Prior Year page) Interest on your TMRS deposits is credited once a year on December 31. Interest is calculated on the balance in your account on January 1 of that calendar year. For example, interest on your account for the year 2008 will be credited on December 31, 2008 and is calculated on your balance at the beginning of the year, which is January 1, 2008. The rate of interest is based on the investment income of the System and is A significant amount of your total retirement benefit comes from interest credited to your member account from TMRS investments.
Important: Interest is not credited for parts of a year, except when a member dies and a refund of accumulated member deposits is paid to the beneficiary or estate, or except in the year a member retires.

You can receive prorated interest on your account only during the year in which you retire. For example, if you decide to retire in July 2008, your account will receive prorated interest for the part of that year. For that July 2008 retirement, you would receive 7/12's of the preceding (2007) year's interest rate based on the balance in your account on January 2008. Prorated interest allows you to choose the time of the year you would like to retire without losing interest on your account.
  • Deposits this Year The deposits you have made to your account during this calendar year. These contributions could include payroll deductions or special service purchases (military service purchase or buyback of forfeited service purchase).
  • Other Changes this Year Any other changes made to your service credit or account balance so far this year.

  • Current Balance

Your current balance is the beginning balance plus all the additions/subtractions made to your account this year.
