April Hernandez Receives Outstanding Women in Texas Government Award
Jun 26, 2026
We are thrilled to announce that April Hernandez, Deputy Chief Service Officer and Director of City and Member Services, has been recognized as the recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Women in Texas Government award in Community Involvement. This honor celebrates April’s exceptional role in the community and in public service.
April has made immeasurable contributions to TMRS by strengthening trust, service excellence, and operational performance, but what truly sets April apart is her extraordinary community leadership.
Following the loss of her daughter Claire, she turned her grief into meaningful action—founding the #CourageousClaire movement, supporting pediatric cancer families, volunteering with Dell Children’s Medical Center, serving as an ambassador for the Cure Starts Now Foundation, and helping deliver more than 8,000 gifts to children and families through the annual Courageous Claire Toy Drive.
April is a powerful example of resilience, service, and impact. We are incredibly proud to celebrate her statewide recognition and the inspiration she brings to TMRS, her family and the entire State of Texas.
April's commitment to making a difference within the community inspires us all. Congratulations, April, on this well-deserved recognition!
